A recent research conducted by a technology provider Toluna has revealed that the women in the UK are not just happy over the concept of ‘Internet of Things’ but almost 83% of them will be putting it into practice everyday.
As a part of this research, around 1000 customers in the UK were questioned about their feelings and scope of being connected to ‘Internet of Things’ and were also asked about their understanding of the phrase. A similar research was also carried out in the USA.
Women happier and more adaptive
Around 58% of the customers in the UK said that they were quite excited about ‘Internet of Things’ and 45% were happy because it would leave them to save a lot of time. The most interesting part is that women were more excited about the technology as compared to men and two out of five people believed that it will make their lives meticulous and better. 43% were of the opinion that ‘Internet of Things’ will stop them from forgetting important tasks. From the research, it turned out that women will be more keen to adopt to the latest technology as compared to men.
Utility galore

According to the study, women based in the UK would use ‘IOT’ for health care purpose more as compared to men. It also turned out that women would use IOT for fitness purposes like keeping a track of their workouts, routines and sleep patterns.
‘IOT’ at home
Irrespective of the gender, age or economic status, more than half of the consumers in the UK (51%) would like to have household appliances that take care of the day to day work. For eg. Fridges that let the home owners know when the groceries are about to end. The percentage turned out to be the same in the US.
Home security too, was a noteworthy aspect as more than half of the UK homeowners claimed that they would love to have a flawless security system at their home if it is not too expensive. However, men (52%) were more interested to have the security systems as compared to (49%) women.
Privacy apprehensiveness

Almost two third of the British women were concerned about the reliableness of the technology and half of them were concerned about the expenses that would incur in case of loss or damaged devices. Nine out of ten women in UK were concerned about the security and 87% feared that hackers would get an access to their personal data.
The Managing Director of Toluna, UK, said that “The life transforming technological advances come up with a plethora of benefits but they also create a lot of apprehensiveness amongst the customers.” He further added that “Our motive was to know how the men and women in the UK feel about ‘Internet of Things’ and it has come out that women are more open to welcome the lifestyle changes that the technology will bring in.”
Other findings
- 73% people believe that technology makes life their life effortless and organized but 40% do not want to have the interruption of technology in their lives.
- 31% consumers in the UK are not open to learn how to use the new technology. The percentage is 39% in the USA.
- 64% are are not happy with the distractions that are brought by ‘Internet of Things’ and 59% are worried about the interference being caused by the technology.
- 23% of the consumers said that they would love to have hologram TV’s and telephones in the future.
