The concept of bridging the interaction between any physical object and internet is called IoT. It enables you to discover web pages associated with everyday objects and locations. The Physical Web is a discovery service powered by bluetooth low energy beacons. Smart objects broadcast relevant URLs that any nearby device can receive. People can walk up to any device like a vending machine, a poster, a toy, a bus stop, a rental car – and get useful content via URLs.

It not only allows to get connected to the things we use in our routine but also makes our tasks easy. Physical web is nothing but IoT brought to next level. It aims to bring the information at the fingertips of the users.

The Openness of the Physical Web

Bluetooth has been an evolutionary product in the market for a long time but with the inertia of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), we have seen a huge crowd using bluetooth devices. From headphones to heart rate monitors, most bluetooth enabled devices are based on BLE technology.

The highlight of physical web is that it is interoperable at all levels. This is possible by floating the URLs among the users. URLs are the fundamental building blocks of the web enabling the users to identify to understand the digital presence of any location or object. Thereby, the beacons or scanners used to broadcast URLs gather them to the proxy used to filter and sort URLs. Moreover, the users will ultimately be able to choose which services are appropriate for their use case.

Know how

  • When you are at a nearby beacon if the users have turned on their bluetooth, mobile data and location, they will receive a notification to locate a nearby physical web.
  • Once the users tap the beacon notification, they would start getting notifications about the nearby web pages.
  • Moreover, the next time you are in a range of a beacon, you will receive URL notifications.
  • You can also manage to disable any nearby notifications in future by changing the google settings.

Changing the Constitutional Approach of SMEs

The physical web has changed the dimensions at which the people are now looking at their regimen with an easy perspective. There are many applications available to monitor your day-to-day activities. Not just individuals but also the small businesses can benefit to a great extent from this concept.

  • If a retail clothing business adopts this technology, they can send URLs regarding any offers or discounts offered by their store to the passers-by.
  • Small gas stations can implement this to increase pump-to-store traffic. The customers receive the URLs for persononalized ads, promotions and discounts and other activities.

LetsNurture provides its clientele with similar solutions to ease their chagrin. We have developed a beacon based solution to guide you through the street of Edinburgh. It enables people to locate and sends information about the historic forts and castles in the vicinity of a beacon.
