We at LetsNurture have been playing with iBeacon technology from the very beginning when it evolved. We have been engaged in developing and successfully delivering many iOS apps and Android apps based on iBeacon technology for several esteemed clients who are into diversified industries and domains. This gave us chance to explore and research how iBeacon technology can be useful to various industries and domains; here we are sharing our ideas that might be useful to brands, companies and organizations in different industries and domains.

Retail:
  • As we have been always talking about, iBeacon technology’s most obvious advantage is for retail industry and domain.
    Send notifications regarding current offers / promotions / discounts.
  • Based on customer preferences (collected earlier), send them information regarding things of their interest like whether those things are in stoke currently, any offers or discounts currently applicable on those things etc.
  • Retailers in food industry can identify customers, their preferred taste and drinks.
  • Retailers can offer coupons to customers after their purchase which in turn can be shared with their friends and family thus attracting more customers to their shop.
  • Offering customers to send their vote / feedback based on their shopping experience.
  • Customers can help their friends and family in locating the things they are looking for by tagging those things.
  • Send out information regarding new products to customers.
  • Street side retailers and vendors can reach to customers in new areas by announcing their arrival and sending notifications to customers regarding their products so customers can able to find them easily.
  • Shopping malls can help customers in detailed parking information and assistance.
  • Effective, cost efficient, smarter, interactive and personalized way to market and advertise the brand instead of using huge and costly hoarding, digital displays and banners.
Hospitality:
  • Hotels can offer automated check-in and check-out process for guests.
  • Sending out accommodation information, rates and facilities to passing by guests so they are able to know about the hotel without manual inquiries.
  • Hotels can offer automated enabling / disabling certain services and facilities like locking / unlocking room doors etc.
    Based on settings or preferences in the app, guest can send out “do not disturb”.
  • Guests can preorder their food via app; iBeacon can detect those guests and have their order prepared fast.
  • Guests can place their order from any location within hotel like terrace, garden etc. and waiters can find them and deliver their order.
  • Hotels can send some reading articles like newspaper, magazines, travel information and guidance regarding that place etc. to guest while they seating in reception area.
Travel, tourism and attractions:
  • Self guided tours regarding the place for travelers.
  • Send out points of interest, map location and information to travelers when visiting new places.
  • Identify traveler’s language preference and accordingly sending them notifications in that language for better assistance.
  • Sending out weather information to travelers and map with important locations of that place like police, doctor, drug store etc.
  • Airports can offer travelers with useful information like check-in gates, exit points, baggage collection and counter, boarding pass collection, food points, security official locations etc.
  • Flight or train arrival / departure / delay / cancellation information can be broadcasted.
  • Send out luggage tracking information.
  • Travel agencies can send personalized offers.
Education:
  • Bulletin boards for students to get all important notices / announcement / updates regarding institute like exam dates, results, courses etc.
  • Institutes can send out attendance information to parents.
  • Institutes can broadcast timetable / exam schedules / class timings etc.
Healthcare:
  • Promote free checkups and health related information.
  • Hospitals can guide patients and visitors with detailed maps regarding each department, drug stores, emergency and trauma wards, canteen, elevators etc.
  • Promote health related events.
Entertainment:
  • Cinemas and theaters can broadcast timings / schedules of current movies and plays.
  • Send out current offers and promotions going on.
  • Send out teasers, trailers, showcase, music etc. of current movies and plays.
  • Sports stadiums can send out information regarding upcoming matches.
  • Online ticket purchase and delivery.
  • Send out recommendations on playing some interesting games based on nearby stadium, cinema or even when traveling in bus, train or flight.
Corporate:
  • Huge MNCs and companies can have a facility of searching and finding employee’s location inside their campus.
  • Send schedules of conference rooms / meeting room / auditoriums, status like free / busy, booking it for some event or meeting, link with calendars and important meeting information or the meeting agenda to people in the room.
  • Tracking hardware inventory and items used within company like if there is a projector or a travel laptop being used, find out who’s got it.
  • Send out locations with maps of different departments like accounts, HR, management, transportation, admin, canteens etc. to employees.
Automotive:
  • Automated actions like locking / unlocking vehicles based on distance between vehicle and smart phone device.
  • Send out traffic information and forecasts for better communication.
Real estate:
  • Send out notifications regarding house on rent or sale in that area so passing by people looking for accommodation in unfamiliar places and areas can get assistance.
Personal:
  • Send out personal notifications like important to-dos, today’s schedule and meetings, important things to carry along before leaving home or office based on settings and preferences.
  • Controlling and automation of home / office devices like ACs, doors, computers etc. before entering / after leaving that place.
  • Vehicle parking assistance in society.
Misc / general:
  • Simple, contactless, speedy online payment processing.
  • Tracking anything personal or official.
  • Assistance for physically disabled and blind people like voice based guidance / alerts / help etc.
