Things are not going as they should be for startups in India, they are losing huge amounts in discount based customer incentives, event sponsorships and big advertisements. Most Indian startups are plying on belief that once they gain the enough eye balls there can secure their market.

Somehow this formula is not benefitting Indian startups the way they are expected, leading to heavy losses. They need to focus more on their product and service and how effectively they can elevate their customer satisfaction. The startups need to understand that marketing is not just about spending money on TV commercials, front page newspaper ads or big banners across the town.

The brand that can make best use of it will obviously take the largest chunk of market share  Everyone is trying their own innovative ways to grab more space on different social networks. Out of 7.4 billion people in this world, approx 3 billion are active internet users today. While 2 billion people are very active on different social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Instagram. It is this population which is the biggest market that consumes most of the semi luxury and all those products that are above basic needs, making it the deciding factor.

Brand awareness is simply the extent to which a brand is recognized by potential customers and is rightly associated with a particular product. Social media becomes more effective tool for the startups to connect with their stakeholders as they have very limited budget of marketing and branding. The entrepreneurs today see social media as a wide scope to expand their brand and sell their product and services.

Nike fitness keeps posting fitness tips with workout videos to let its followers like and share it. This engages users with the brand and enhances its reach whenever their products or campaigns are launched. Only Instagram has 200 million active users worldwide, which is rising as the most preferred way to connect with the young audience within the age range of 14-32 years.  

Social Media is a Powerful Communicator

Using social media effectively needs a proper planning and strategy to use these tools towards the growth and expansion of business. Social Media might be used on 5 inch screens but its impact is bigger than a 70mm cinema screen. Even companies that always supported traditional way of branding have realised the potential of social media and adapted their strategies accordingly. It won’t be wrong to say that social media is today’s the best way to communicate with your customers.

The biggest benefit that social media offers to managers is measuring the impact of the campaign which is lacking in all the previous methods. Even the TRP rating which is decisive in finalising the rate of commercial in response to the TV viewership, is not as perfect as the social media analytics.

It is pretty much clear that to make a larger impact on today’s marketing, one has to resort to social media. All one needs to take care is that it is a fine edged sword which can surely make you win over enemies but a slight negligence can cause greater damage. One misinterpreted post on social media can cause a lot of negative reactions and deface the brand image. Strategise and plan properly before diving into this ocean of social marketing.
